A couple of years ago, I made a dress out of my old Pujols t-shirt (see post here). I recently got the urge to redo this dress into something more practical. I wanted to make it a cute strapless dress, but I'm not in a "strapless dress" kind of place these days. I am always carrying a toddler on my hip, so wearing a strapless dress means that at any given time my top half will be exposed.
I wanted it to be a dress that I could wear to Cardinals games as well as around the house. Since I live in maxi dresses in the summer, I turned my dress into a maxi (that can also be shortened later if I so desire).
I cut the bottom half of the old dress off, removed the ribbons and started from scratch with a cut off t-shirt. I added the gray and white striped fabric for the bottom, then I made a "belt" with navy blue jersey knit and stitched it on. After much debate about what to do with the top, (keep it as a tank, make it a halter, go strapless?) I decided to keep it as a tank and turn under the edges. Once I figured out what I wanted, the whole process took me just an afternoon.
I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Maybe eventually I'll make that strapless dress....
Love this! So cute!
